Last week, our Fremont-Mills community came together to tackle one of the most important topics facing today’s youth — the impact of social media.
Tuesday’s community event and Wednesday’s 7-12 student assembly featured FM alum Lori Schott, who courageously shared the story of her daughter, Annalee, and her mission to protect kids online. Lori’s message was heartfelt, eye-opening, and inspiring — reminding us all to be aware, stay safe, and use technology responsibly.
A huge thank you to FM Student Council and FM BPA for organizing this event and to our incredible student leaders who helped make it happen.
To continue supporting Lori’s mission for change, the official event T-shirts are now available! There are two colors to choose from, and proceeds will go toward Lori’s mission to advocate for online safety and awareness. 🩵 #LiveLikeAnna

On October 22, we celebrated SEL Day! Students focused on Social Emotional Learning through four key concepts: fuel your body, energize your body, ground your body and mind, and calm your body and mind. They got hands-on with activities like making yogurt parfaits, playing parachute games, and creating stress balls and pinwheels as calming strategies.
All students, from elementary through high school, also had the chance to hear motivational speaker Terrence Talley, who inspired everyone to look out for others and never give up.

Now in its third year, the Big and Little Program has grown into one of the most heartwarming and impactful traditions in our district. Designed to foster mentorship, leadership, and connection, this unique initiative pairs high school students with elementary classrooms, creating meaningful relationships that benefit students of all ages.
Juniors, seniors, and underclassmen involved in Student Council are eligible to serve as “Bigs,” and the goal is to connect at least one high school mentor with every elementary class. These mentors support younger students in a variety of ways, such as reading together, practicing math facts, helping with classwork, or simply being a positive role model during recess. Some are even paired 1:1 with students who benefit from extra encouragement and consistent connection.
What makes the program especially powerful is the dedication of the Bigs. Many have returned year after year and request to stay with the same class, or even the same student, because of the strong bonds they’ve formed.

At Fremont-Mills, collaboration is at the heart of student success. Three times a year, all of our elementary classroom teachers come together, joined by the principal, our Talented and Gifted teacher, Title I teachers, and special education staff, to focus on the needs of each individual child.
During these grade-level meetings, team members dive into every student’s progress in reading and math. They celebrate growth, identify challenges, and design tailored learning plans to ensure no child falls through the cracks. Whether a student needs additional support or more advanced enrichment, grade-level teams work together to provide the right interventions at the right time.
This commitment to collaboration ensures that every child is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive!

Wind Pump 2.0 is still in the trial-and-error stage for Quentin and CJ, 6th-grade talented and gifted students at Fremont Mills. The turbine blades move, gain speed, and start to rotate. The gears are turning. Then, failure. Then frustration sets in, and they have to start again and rethink their design. They are designing, creating, and building STEM projects from the Makerspace Cart. Quentin and CJ have been using skills such as critical thinking and deductive reasoning. These projects also foster creativity, build resilience, cultivate curiosity, and connect learning to the real world. Wendy Gardner is the TAG teacher.
